I drew on my years as a Green Beret and a lifetime studying military history to ground the combat and tactics in reality, even as the story rockets into the extraordinary. Because the best speculative fiction, in my opinion, needs boots on the ground. You have to believe the mud and the blood before you’ll buy the magic.
